Went into the office this morning.. Not exactly where I wanted to be on a Saturday morning. Luckily I have a boss that is understanding. Left early got with a few friends; (Jacks, Luke, Alvin, Erin, Ashleigh, Lauren) and went exploring. Went into an old abandoned house and found a few unique items. I think the house has been left since the early 50’s. In a barn we came upon a lot of old newspapers and magazines from WWII this particular one is dated July, 11 1942. The headline reads “NAZIS SAY REDS SUFFER DESTRUCTIVE DEFEAT”. I think the wooden plank is a part of an old farm plow. Jacks found some hooks to put on it, to make a unique coat hanger. An old whiskey bottle, JTS BROWN. “Bottled in Bond Under US Government Supervision” This refers to the Bottled-in-Bond act of 1897,
“To be labeled as “Bottled-in-Bond” or “Bonded,” the spirit must be the product of one distillation season and one distiller at one distillery. It must have been stored (i.e., aged) in a federally bonded warehouse under U.S. government supervision for at least four years and bottled at 100 (U.S.) proof (50% alcohol by volume). The bottled product’s label must identify the distillery (by DSP number) where it was distilled and, if different, where it was bottled.”
I am sort a automotive fan, this last piece is very interesting to me. I had no idea what it was when I picked it up among the rubbish. It looked something like a diesel pump. There is a tag on it ” Four Cylinder Kellogg Tire Pump Pat’d OCT 1910 Rochester, NY”. The name tag double up as a oil filler cover. After a little research I learned that it was a motor mounted tire pump. Cars in the early 1900’s had a lot of tire problems, so Cadillac offered an option to have a motor driven tire pump. It has a gear on it that is controlled by a lever to engage and disengage it on an engine driven gear. This has been the most complete tire pump set up I have seen online in this condition.
A bunch of useless stuff and information? Possibly. Sometimes we just need to do something different to get away from the daily grind. Have a nice day.
